See 1951.2.96 for a similar figurine, both of which have rounded ears above the earflare. This style of figurine, usually rendering females, is found throughout Central Mexico including West Mexico where the female figurine tradition was prevalent for 1500 years. The multiple-band neck ornament comprises typical body adornment for West Mexican peoples based on depictions of such jewelry on ceramic figural sculptures, especially those from Nayarit and Jalisco.
The red color of the paste also is a known ceramic matrix in certain locales in the Jalisco-Nayarit border region. See Pickering, R. and C.
