Formerly, this drawing was grouped with other male and female figures from Berlin, 1922-23, but is now considered more closely tied to Hartley's late figure works and is possibly a study of heads for one of his paintings of local fishermen in Down East, Maine (ca. 1940) and so should be grouped with others like it in the MHMC (1955.1.45-1955.1.47 and 1955.1.79; 1955.1.83-1955.1.84.
