As with each of the drawings in this sub-series, Hartley uses the same basic means and motif to study the male form in slightly different poses and how symmetry vs. shifting of weight produces thrust and varying degrees of contrapposto. Here the figure, in a stance very much like the MHMC drawing, Study for The Lifeguard (1955.1.64), leans heavily forward on his right leg.
