Figurine Fragment

450-700
Unknown Artist (Teotihuacan)

Notes
The wide-band headdress worn by this figure is distinctive to Teotihuacan figurines although it does not appear in the mural art or stone sculpture of the metropolis. Chronologically, it is one of the longest-lasting headdress types at Teotihuacan, beginning during the Tzacualli phase (Teotihuacan I phase, 1-150 CE) and continuing to the end of the city after 650 CE. The execution of this piece and the extensive slip painting suggest the figurine dates to the final two phases of Teotihuacan.
